1. Purpose
These terms govern the use of the Spook app (iPhone, iPad and Android) and the purchase of Spook Pro. Spook is published by Matteo Quintaneiro, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) (SIREN 939 240 016), whose contact details are in the legal notice.
They supplement Apple’s standard licence agreement for apps (EULA), which applies to the iOS version. On Android, the Google Play terms apply to distribution and purchases. By using Spook, you accept these terms.
2. The service
Spook lets you bring together your subscriptions and recurring costs, follow their due dates, be reminded before certain dates and view public information about offers. In particular:
- you add your subscriptions yourself, from a catalogue of services or by hand;
- Spook calculates your due dates and totals on your device, from what you enter;
- Spook can remind you of a date with a notification, if you allow it;
- Spook shows public reference prices and offer changes, recorded and dated.
Spook does not cancel, take out or change any contract for you. Deleting a subscription in the app does not stop a payment: cancelling is always done with the provider concerned. Spook is not a bank, a financial adviser or a broker.
3. Access and requirements
Spook is a free download on the App Store, for iPhone with iOS 17 and iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, and on Google Play, for Android 8 or later. No account is needed. The free version lets you track up to 6 ongoing subscriptions; ended subscriptions stay in the history without counting. It also includes, in full, the comparison and saving ideas (amounts, suggested offers, compared offers, detailed cost, steps to switch, “Negotiate” script), as well as the calendar, price history, export and import, a first bank statement import (up to 6 subscriptions, within the limit of tracked subscriptions), the reminder the day before at 9:00 for payments and free trial ends, offer changes and their notification, a spending overview (the first 3 months and the largest category), choosing an icon and a colour for a service without a logo, and the light, dark or automatic appearance.
An internet connection is useful to update the public catalogue, buy or restore Spook Pro and send the statistics or diagnostics you allow. Tracking your subscriptions works offline.
4. Spook Pro
Spook Pro is an optional in-app purchase, on iPhone, iPad and Android. It is digital content, supplied in the app as soon as the purchase is confirmed. It adds:
- unlimited tracking of ongoing subscriptions;
- unlimited import of bank statements, exported from your bank (PDF or CSV), scanned or photographed, read on the device, to find your subscriptions (the first import is free in the free version); this feature is in beta: it may miss a subscription or suggest one by mistake, and nothing is added without your confirmation;
- spending over 12 months, broken down by category, and usage history;
- reminders 3 or 7 days before a due date, at the time you choose;
- alerts for the end of a promotion, the end of a minimum term, a notice period and eligibility, and follow-ups on the steps you take;
- Home Screen widgets, and Lock Screen widgets on iOS;
- 8 colours for the app, its icon and its widgets.
The comparison, saving ideas and their amount, suggested offers, steps to switch, the “Negotiate” script and offer changes stay free, with or without Spook Pro.
- Type
- One-time in-app purchase, with no subscription and no renewal
- Price
- €9.99 including VAT in France, paid once, on iPhone, iPad and Android. The price that applies is the one shown by the App Store or Google Play in the app at the time of purchase, in your currency.
- Payment
- Charged only once by Apple on iOS, or by Google Play on Android, when you confirm the purchase. The price offered by your store is shown before you confirm.
- Duration
- No end date: access only ends if the purchase is refunded or revoked by the store
- Family Sharing
- On iOS only: up to 5 members of your Apple family group benefit, depending on the group’s sharing settings. Google Play does not offer family sharing for this purchase.
Spook Pro is bought without a Spook account: the purchase is linked to your Apple Account on iOS, or your Google account on Android. It can be restored on devices using the same store with Spook’s Settings › Restore purchases, or from the Spook Pro screen. RevenueCat helps check and restore access on iOS; Android uses Google Play Billing directly. Since there is no Spook account, a purchase made on the App Store does not give access to Spook Pro on Android, and a purchase made on Google Play does not give access to Spook Pro on iPhone or iPad. A price change only applies to later purchases.
Features added to Spook Pro later are included, at no extra cost. A future separate module may be sold as a separate purchase: it will not take anything away from Spook Pro.
If the purchase is refunded or revoked, nothing is deleted: your subscriptions stay viewable and editable, and reminders already set are kept. Beyond 6 ongoing subscriptions, adding a new subscription then requires Spook Pro; importing a backup remains possible. The app and its widgets go back to the Lime colour, and your colour choice is kept.
5. Order and payment
The purchase is made only in the app, from the Spook Pro screen, with your store’s payment system: Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPad, Google Play on Android. Before you confirm, the store shows the product name, its price including taxes in your currency and the payment method. The order is placed when you confirm the purchase in the store’s window; the store then sends you its receipt.
Payment is collected by Apple or by Google, under their general terms, which also apply to this purchase. I do not receive your payment details and do not process the payment directly. On Android, a pending payment (for example in cash or with a deferred method offered by Google Play) only unlocks Spook Pro once Google Play has confirmed it.
6. Withdrawal and refunds
Spook Pro is digital content supplied without a physical medium, as soon as the purchase is confirmed. The French Consumer Code (Code de la consommation) provides that such content, once supplied with your prior agreement and your express waiver of the right of withdrawal, no longer carries that right (article L221-28, 13°). The stores apply their own rules, which may be more generous, and requests are made to them:
- On iPhone and iPad, Apple handles cancellation and refund requests under its terms, at reportaproblem.apple.com. I cannot refund a purchase made on the App Store myself.
- On Android, Google Play handles refund requests under its refund policy, from your order history. After the period that Google handles itself, write to me: I can refund an order from the Google Play Console.
A refund granted by the store removes access to Spook Pro, as described in section 4. These rules do not limit the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content (section 9).
7. Information shown
The reference prices, offer terms and offer changes shown by Spook come from the providers’ public pages or, failing that, from identified public sources. Each item shows the date it was recorded. This information is given as a guide only: providers can change it at any time, and your own contract may have other terms (promotion, discount, minimum term). Always check with the provider before making a decision.
A comparison or a savings estimate is based on the information available and on what you enter. It does not guarantee any saving. If you spot a mistake, write to contact@tichow.fr: I will correct it as soon as possible.
How offers are chosen. For a mobile plan or broadband, Spook only suggests public offers recorded on the providers’ websites and reviewed by the publisher. They do not cover the whole market: they are a selection of offers from a few providers. Spook compares those in the same category as your contract that keep what matters to you (data, 5G, speed, TV…) and that match your age, your student status or your broadband box when such a condition applies. They are ranked by what they would save you over 12 or 24 months, known fees included, calculated from what you enter. Offers that look cheaper at first glance but that Spook does not suggest are listed separately, with the reason (promotion ending, fees, reserved condition). No provider pays to appear in Spook, to be ranked higher or to be featured: the ranking depends only on the saving calculated for you. To date, Spook receives no commission. If that changes, each offer concerned will say so clearly, and the ranking will stay the same.
Price updates. Prices of mobile plans and broadband are checked again every week on the providers’ websites; those of other services, at least every two to four months. Each price shows the date it was last recorded, and stays shown and compared until it has been replaced. Check the price on the provider’s website before switching, and correct the pre-filled amount in your subscription if it differs from your bill.
8. Fair use
You agree to use Spook for personal and lawful purposes, without trying to disrupt how it works, get around its protections or extract its content on a large scale.
9. Liability
- Your data is stored on your device. Remember your device backups or the export: losing or resetting a device can erase your subscriptions.
- Whether notifications are shown depends on the system and your settings (permissions, Focus, battery saving). A scheduled reminder cannot be guaranteed to be received.
- The amounts and dates calculated depend on what you enter. Spook cannot be held responsible for a missed payment or due date when it results from incomplete or inaccurate information you entered, from a change decided by a provider, or from system settings (notifications refused, Focus).
Spook is designed and checked with care. Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law gives you as a consumer, in particular the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services.
10. Intellectual property
The app, its name, the Spooky character, its texts and its visuals are protected. You receive a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use it, under the terms of these documents and, on iOS, of Apple’s EULA. The names and logos of the services shown belong to their respective owners and are only used to identify them.
11. Personal data
Spook works without an account. Your subscriptions stay on the device. Purchases are checked by Apple and RevenueCat on iOS, with a random identifier, and by Google Play Billing on Android. PostHog and Sentry receive statistics and diagnostics only with your consent; a further consent lets you share the catalogue services you choose and your goal. See the privacy policy.
12. Changes
These terms may change, for example if a feature is added. The version in force is the one published on this page, with its update date. A significant change will be announced in the app. It does not take anything away from a purchase already made.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If you live in another country of the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence.
If you have a problem, write to me first at contact@tichow.fr: most issues are easily solved.
If no amicable solution is found, the dispute falls under the competent courts, according to the rules of the French Code of Civil Procedure (Code de procédure civile) and the French Consumer Code.
